Get involved for Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
This October, as with every October for the past two decades, individuals and communities alike will participate in raising awareness of breast cancer. This month focuses alerting women to get screened for early detection, diagnosis, and treatment, along with emphasizing support for those who are living survivors of the disease. Get involved and find smart solutions to lower your risk of getting breast cancer – or supporting females who are at risk.
Detection is Key
One in eight women will face breast cancer in her lifetime. Medical screenings are designed to detect the early stages of cancer, which can go a long way for successful treatments and early action. Women are encouraged to perform breast self-exams once a month to detect any changes. Clinical breast exams are suggested every three years for women and every year for women over 40. This month, set up an early detection plan and encourage your friends and family to do the same!
Prevention is Possible
Living a healthy lifestyle can go a long way in preventing breast cancer. Even though there is no magic solution, research and studies show that lifestyle makes a big impact. Always eat a well-balanced diet, exercising regularly, maintain a healthy weight, minimize alcohol consumption, avoid smoking, perform self-breast exams, and report for all recommended mammograms and exams!
Fundraise for the Future!
Men, you can get involved in this month, too! Host a fundraiser or partake in a local event to raise money and awareness for other women. A few ideas include: hosting an event, an online fundraiser, race, or become a brand ambassador! Check out the Breast Cancer website for more tips!
